The Area Agency on Aging 1-B (AAA 1-B) is governed by a Board of Directors. The Board includes aging network and health industry leaders from across the six-county region that the AAA 1-B serves. A commissioner and one older adult representative from all six counties also sits on the Board. The agency also has an Advisory Council consisting primarily of older adults, service providers and professionals in the aging network, who provide input and direction on the various initiatives of the AAA 1-B. Karen Wintringham, Chair
Wintringham has worked in health services her entire career, with a specific focus on improving services and programs for older adults. Most recently she was Vice President of the Medicare Division for Health Alliance Plan.
R. Andrew Hetzel, First Vice Chair
Hetzel is Vice President of Corporate Communications at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. He has served in executive and leadership roles in several public relations agencies and in state government in Michigan and New York.
Dr. Peter Lichtenberg, Second Vice Chair
Lichtenberg is the Director of The Institute of Gerontology and the Merrill Palmer Skillman Institute at Wayne State University, where he is also a Professor of psychology. A clinician and researcher throughout his career, he has made contributions to the practice of psychology across a variety of areas, from Alzheimer’s disease to late-life depression.
