Southfield, Mich. (June 2, 2014). Governor Rick Snyder delivered a special message on aging this morning at the Older Persons’ Commission in Rochester. The Governor talked about ways that private and public groups could work together to make sure older adults in Michigan have a good quality of life and high-quality years as they age. Snyder talked about the need for a wide range of programs that work together to ensure aging well in Michigan– programs that promote wellness, address the needs of family caregivers, those experiencing dementia, prevent elder abuse and financial fraud, and build integrated transportation networks and age-friendly communities. Most importantly, the Governor talked about his support for making Michigan a “No Wait” state for in-home services like Meals on Wheels and home care services delivered through the MI-Choice Medicaid Waiver. Governor Snyder’s proposed budget includes $20 million in funding to support in-home services and make Michigan a “No Wait” state.
The Area Agency on Aging 1-B (AAA 1-B) is grateful to Governor Snyder for his support of the needs of older adults in Michigan and his recognition that in-home services are a critical component in ensuring that older adults get the care they need, can remain living in their own homes and enjoy high-quality years. The AAA 1-B encourages seniors, family caregivers, advocates and everyone concerned with aging in Michigan to thank the Governor for his support of making Michigan a No Wait state.
