Q.    What is the Area Agency on Aging 1-B?
A.    The Area Agency on Aging 1-B (AAA 1-B) is a private 501(c)3 nonprofit agency that receives funding through the Older Americans Act to provide information and access to services for older adults, persons with disabilities and family caregivers residing in the six county region of Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair and Washtenaw.

Q.    What does the 1-B represent in the agency’s name?
A.    The 1-B represents, as designated by Congress, the six county service area served by the Area Agency on Aging 1-B.

Q.    What services are available through the Area Agency on Aging 1-B?
A.    The AAA 1-B can provide access to and information on over 5,000 in-home and community services such as personal care, respite for caregivers, homemaking, meals and transportation.

Q.    Who is eligible for services from the Area Agency on Aging 1-B?
A.    Any person age 60 and over who resides in Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair or Washtenaw counties is potentially eligible for agency services that are funded by either the Older Americans Act or the Older Michiganians Act.  Persons over the age of 65 and younger disabled adults with monthly incomes no higher than $2,022 and assets no greater than $2,000 and medically eligible for nursing home placement may qualify for the MI Choice Home and Community Based Medicaid Waiver Program.

A.    The AAA 1-B has certified resource specialists available to address all questions on services and resources in our six county region of Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair and Washtenaw.  To contact a resource specialist call 1-800-852-7795 or complete the on-line form.

Q.    How can I find contact information for an Area Agency on Aging in other regions?
A.    Information about Area Agencies on Aging across the United States can be obtained by calling the toll free Eldercare Locator number at 1-800-677-1116 between 9 a.m to 5 p.m. Eastern time or click on the link www.eldercare.gov.

Q.    How can I file a grievance or complaint regarding services received from the Area Agency on Aging 1-B?
A.    Any consumer* of AAA 1-B services or assistance has the right to file a grievance or complaint over any unresolved conflict or issue that arises during the course of receiving services, including service received directly from the Area Agency on Aging 1-B (i.e. Information & Assistance) or service received by a contracted agency (i.e. Home Delivered Meals).  You may file a complaint or grievance yourself or have a designated representative file it for you.  For more detailed information, please download the AAA 1-B Grievances and Complaints Policy  (52 KB word document).

Q.    How does an organization become listed in the AAA 1-B Refer database?
A.   The AAA 1-B maintains a database of over 2,000 organizations that provide resources and services for older adults, persons with disabilities and family caregivers.  To be considered for inclusion in this database please contact Call Center Team Supervisor at (248) 262-9960.

Q.    How does a community organization or agency apply to receive funding from the Area Agency on Aging 1-B?
A.   The Area Agency on Aging 1-B contracts with external agencies through a competitive Request for Proposal process that is held every three years.  For more information on this process please contact the AAA 1-B or click here for more details.

Q.    How does a private for profit organization providing services to older adults or persons with disabilities apply to be part of the Area Agency on Aging 1-B direct service purchase?
