Judith J. Wahlberg Professional Training Event March 6

The Area Agency on Aging 1-B is pleased to announce the Fifth Annual Judith J. Wahlberg Memorial Lecture to be held on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at the Costick Center in Farmington Hills, Michigan from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM.  This year’s speaker, Elaine K. Williams, author of “The Sacred Work of Grandparents Raising Grandchildren,” will explore the topic of Caregiving and Stress Self-management.

“I’m dedicated to a holistic approach to learning, living, and well-being,” state Ms. Williams.  ” I believe in inspiration and inner knowing. Both are urgings from the deep self that tell you what it will take to make your life meaningful. Any leap that you want to make in your personal or professional life that aligns with your passion and sense of purpose, and with your deepest values, is by definition meaningful.”

Regarding her book, Ms. Williams notes, “I provide suggestions and solutions that help both grandchildren and grandparents understand the dynamics behind their many challenges associated with kinship care. Resources are explored in great detail, which address psycho-emotional needs as well as the economic and social needs of family members. After completing the research for this book and after my many interviews, I salute all the grandparents who are parenting their grandchildren. Your courage, sacrifices and love are admirable.”

The AAA 1-B is pleased to partner with Wayne State University’s Institute of Gerontology to offer this program with Continuing Education Units for Social Work, Nursing and Nursing Home Administration.  For more information, please contact Natalie Pearce, Community Training Manager, at npearce@www.aaa1b.org or 248-262-0533.  Registration is online at:  http://areaagencyonaging1bjjw.eventbrite.com.
