AAA 1-B Expands Services to Help Seniors Remain at Home

The Area Agency on Aging 1-B (AAA 1-B) has funding available through the Community Living Program (CLP), which connects older adults to services to help them remain living in their own homes safely and independently.  This one-time funding is for fiscal year 2012, which ends September 30, 2012, and is targeted to assist individuals, 60 years of age and older and family caregivers, who live in Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair and Washtenaw counties.  Older adults who are concerned about their ability to live independently in their home, and/or their family caregivers, are encouraged to call the AAA 1-B to determine eligibility for this program by September 14, 2012.

Services provided through CLP include home delivered meals, homemaking, personal care assistance, emergency medical response systems, assistive technology, safeguards for persons with memory loss, respite care, including adult day services for caregivers, and more.  A professional from the AAA 1-B provides an independent living consultation over the phone, or in person, with the older adult or with their family caregiver, and helps them navigate resources available in the community. The consultant can help identity insurance benefits that may help cover costs, assist with budgeting, and explore optional services, which may be available free of charge, or require full or partial payment by the individual.

“The Area Agency on Aging 1-B  is the first place a family can call for access to supportive services to help an older adult remain living in their home or community safely and independently,” said Tina Abbate Marzolf, CEO of the AAA 1-B.  “The agency’s Community Living Program helps older adults or their caregiver access supportive services, plan and manage resources, and supports the individual to remain living at home.”

The CLP program serves persons, age 60 or older who require assistance with daily care needs. The older adult must live in Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair or Washtenaw County. There is no charge to call the AAA 1-B.  There may be a charge to schedule an in-home meeting.  Costs of services vary and will depend on what the participant needs and requests. Some resources may be available at no charge and others may require shared or full payment.   All costs will be discussed by the AAA 1-B professional during the consultation.
